After much controversy over the recent Battlefield 6 update that reduced experience point rewards in farming servers, the developers have finally responded to the community’s demands and confirmed that they are testing the return of the progression system in cooperative play modes (PvE) and carefully selected servers within Portal.
EA and DICE had reduced experience point rewards in bot-based servers after noticing some players exploiting these rooms to accelerate their progress through levels and obtain medals and rewards without real competition, but this decision angered a large number of players who prefer quiet solo or cooperative play without pressure or direct competition.
According to Community Manager Shepard via GamesRadar+, players will soon be able to earn experience points, account progression, and weapon unlocks in single-player and co-op modes and a selection of dedicated servers. However, K/D ratios will not be calculated or leaderboards updated during the testing period to ensure the integrity of statistics is maintained.
To avoid the resurgence of XP farms, the developers have put in place a set of rules and restrictions, including
- A minimum difficulty threshold
- Activity monitoring system (to detect AFK and auto-repeat)
- Various in-game objectives
- A logical cap on experience points per minute
Any server that violates these conditions will lose Progression Eligible status until the issue is fixed and each server will be clearly labeled in the browser interface and in the pre-match screen indicating whether or not it counts as Progression Eligible with a brief explanation as to why.
Many players have welcomed this move as a logical balance between freedom and fairness, allowing users with limited time to progress without affecting competitive stats.
