After years of silence following the success of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, Toys For Bob appears to be very close to revealing its next project, which growing evidence suggests is Spyro 4.
This time the news didn’t come via an official announcement or the usual marketing hint, but rather an unintentional slip in the resume of one of the studio’s former creators, which gives it more credibility than just a passing rumor.
A recent report revealed an update to the profile of former Toys For Bob concept artist Donald Yatomi, listing his work on the Spyro project as taking place between 2022 and 2024.
This timing is very important as it completely rules out the project being related to the Reignited trilogy released in 2018, meaning we are looking at a new standalone project that has been in active development for two full years and not just an update or re-release.
Toys For Bob has always played the nostalgia card with vague hints on its official website and social media, but this leak moves the scene from intentional teasing to what can only be described as indirect confirmation.
With the studio’s recent independence and its continued close partnership with Xbox, the timing couldn’t be better for the revival of classic platforming titles that need passionate teams with the understanding and soul to bring them back in the right form.
Logical analysis points to a path similar to what we saw with Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, a return to the roots that gamers loved with a comprehensive visual update and mechanical improvements for the current generation.
Despite attempts to downplay the leak by saying that the mention of Spyro may be related to additional content or a limited appearance in another game, dedicating a concept artist to work on the title for almost two years suggests something much bigger, building a new world, characters and entire levels, which does not happen for the sake of a fleeting appearance.
So far there is no official confirmation, but the accumulated indicators make the announcement of Spyro 4 only a matter of time, and with the expected release schedule, 2026 seems to be the most prominent candidate for the return of one of the greatest platform game icons to the current generation’s devices.
