As players await the official launch of Battlefield 6 this October, a new leak has surfaced highlighting Battlefield 2042’s Portal mode, which allows players to create unlimited maps and game modes.
As Battlefield Labs returns to closed beta testing after the end of open beta, a five-minute leak via Battlefield Wire shows off some of the new possibilities in Portal. The footage shows a player building a massive and complex structure, designed to be climbed in the style of the popular Only Up game that went viral in 2023.
What sets Portal apart is that it puts players’ imaginations at the forefront in terms of designing fully customized maps and modes, the ability to recreate mini-games or emulate experiences from other titles, and allowing for team battles atop massive structures or in unconventional environments.
Battlefield developers have emphasized that Portal in the new version won’t just be a side feature, but a core element that could keep Battlefield 6 alive for years thanks to community-created content.
With a full launch in October, Portal looks set to be one of the game’s strongest differentiators from its competitors in the massively multiplayer shooter arena.
