The final round of closed technical testing for Bungie’s Marathon has begun, and it seems that the game is finally starting to gain some confidence after a long period of skepticism and delays, and despite the participants’ commitment to confidentiality agreements, some comments and experiences have leaked online to give us a first glimpse of the game’s progress.
On Reddit, a number of users who experienced the closed test (or saw the leaks) shared their thoughts on the game. Among the most notable impressions:
- One player said the work on the faction and mission system is impressive.
- Another criticized mechanics like paying money to remove weapon add-ons and described the audio as weak.
- Another user wrote that the single-player experience is akin to a survival horror, and he hasn’t been able to stop playing since the test began.
- Others considered the game to be much better than the previous alpha, but it needs more time in development.
The game was delayed earlier this year due to production issues and technical leaks, including an art theft scandal that was later resolved, and Bungie suffered from low morale within the studio, according to internal reports, which increased concern about the future of the project.
However, Marathon seems to be slowly regaining momentum, with some players seeing it as a major step forward despite some minor issues such as the button system and directional audio
If the positive feedback continues in the coming stages, we may be facing a strong return to the studio that made the glory of Halo and Destiny, and with the improvement of the technical, audio and visual experience, Marathon may turn from a stalled project into one of the most anticipated shooters of the new generation.
Do you think Bungie can save Marathon and make it a successful experience after all these obstacles?
