In the past few days, the Horizon series has witnessed a wave of successive news, most notably the surprise announcement of Horizon Steel Frontiers, a new MMORPG project between PlayStation and NCSoft for PC and mobile devices, but despite the great interest in this announcement, it turns out that this project is not the only collective game that the future of the series holds.
Well-known journalist Jason Schreyer came out with a clarification via BlueSky, confirming that Horizon Steel Frontiers is not related to the multiplayer game that Guerrilla Games is working on. According to Schreyer, the Guerrilla project is the studio’s “next big thing,” while NCSoft’s game is primarily aimed at Asian markets.
The clarification comes just one day after NCSoft revealed a 10-minute-plus video showcasing the gameplay and initial features of Steel Frontiers, a project that was also revealed to utilize AI extensively in its development, both in world-building and gameplay design.
The Horizon series has been in a state of expansion this year. Months ago, the spotlight was on Sony’s lawsuit against Tencent for Light of Motiram, which Sony considered to be a copycat of Horizon.
Then the announcement of Steel Frontiers opened the door to a huge new project, and now Schreyer’s statements confirm that Guerrilla Games is also working on a completely independent multiplayer game, which means that the series is heading towards a future full of diverse experiences.
Recent court documents revealed that Horizon Zero Dawn is planned for release in 2027, while Tencent responded to the lawsuit by saying that “fame does not make a trademark.”
With this major expansion across multiple games and a cinematic movie, it seems that Horizon fans have exciting years ahead of them with huge projects that reshape the series in the gaming world.
