The upcoming Resident Evil movie is still without an official trailer, but director Zach Cregger’s remarks reveal more about it. In a new interview, Cregger explained that the movie will remain faithful to the gaming experience as the viewer follows a single protagonist who gradually descends into the depths of hell, just as it happens in the series.
The director said that the movie lives more in the world of RE2 and RE3 in terms of environment, but sticks more to the atmosphere of RE4. This means we’ll see a mix between the serious horror of the classics and the high dose of tension and action that characterized Resident Evil 4.
Cregger emphasized that he played thousands of hours of Resident Evil games, which helped him understand the series’ innate cinematic rhythm. The movie will be presented on a much larger scale than his previous works such as Barbarian, with an original story with his own touch.
Filming will begin in mid-October 2025 in Prague and continue until January 2026. Prague was chosen because of the financial incentives, experienced production teams, and significant resources that make it easier to deliver the project on budget.
Cregger promised that the movie will not be completely obedient to the story of the series, but will stay true to the core and offer something new, strange and edgy. He added that fans of the previous movies may be surprised, while fans of the games will definitely be excited.
