In a new interview with Jason Schreyer via Bloomberg, Team Cherry co-founder Ari Gibson spoke about the team’s future after the completion of Silksong content development, revealing for the first time that their next project may not be Hollow Knight 3.
Gibson emphasized that the studio “has other games in development,” but stressed that the main issue is the sheer amount of time their games require:
“The only concern is time… If a single project takes 7 years and maybe more, death is not far away. We’d like to make more games before that.
When Gibson was asked if future games will stay within or move away from the Hollow Knight universe, he replied that the team is ready to create new worlds while maintaining the artistic core of their games:
“We’ve said before that we’re going to go to other places. The experience will still be about exploring huge worlds, strange characters and giant bosses, but we don’t want to be known only as the makers of Hollow Knight.
While he emphasized that he’s not uncomfortable with the idea of working on a new Silksong, he said it’s exciting to experiment with slightly different genres or themes and what new stories those changes might produce.
At the moment, Team Cherry doesn’t seem to have settled on its next project, and we’re expected to wait 4 to 5 years before we know where the studio is headed next.
