In a move that expands its global presence in the gaming industry, Nintendo has revealed its plan to acquire Bandai Namco Singapore, the studio that made significant contributions to the development of Splatoon 3 and other major projects.
According to the official announcement, Nintendo will initially acquire 80% of the studio’s shares on April 1, 2026, to obtain the remaining percentage after a specified period, and once the deal is completed, the studio will bear the new name Nintendo Studios Singapore to become a full Nintendo subsidiary, and despite the management change, the studio will continue its work in game development without any radical change in its structure or tasks.
The relationship between Nintendo and Studio Singapore is not new, as the studio previously participated in the development of Splatoon 3 and gained a strong reputation thanks to its skill in producing visual assets within games, and this previous harmony makes the transition under the Nintendo umbrella a smooth and straightforward step.
Nintendo emphasizes that the acquisition will have little impact on its financial results this year, suggesting that it is a long-term investment aimed at strengthening internal development teams and increasing their flexibility to work on multiple projects in parallel.
This is part of Nintendo’s broader expansion, especially after it confidently entered the movie industry with multiple projects coming after The Legend of Zelda in 2027.
Acquiring a studio with international experience and professionalism could be an important step in enhancing the quality of Nintendo’s upcoming games, especially in the next generation of titles and cross-media projects.
