A new report from Bloomberg reveals that the Japanese company has asked its manufacturing partners to assemble an additional 25 million units during the first half of 2026 in a move that reflects great confidence in the performance of the Switch 2.
According to informed sources quoted by Bloomberg, Nintendo has asked its supply chain partners to increase the pace of production in preparation for a surge in demand for the holiday season and 2026.
The report added that Nintendo began assembling the Switch 2 in late 2024 but may make adjustments to final production numbers after gauging actual market demand during the crucial shopping season.
Internal estimates suggest that the company is aiming to sell around 20 million units of the Switch 2 this year, a huge number even by Nintendo’s standards and a reflection of the company’s confidence in the strength of its new platform.
Since the launch of the Switch 2 on June 5, 2025, Nintendo’s shares have risen significantly, driven by the success of the console and the continued interest of gamers around the world.
The report indicated that Nintendo has allocated huge marketing budgets to support the sales momentum through global advertising campaigns aimed at expanding the user base, this approach is in line with the company’s well-known policy of maintaining a long life cycle for its devices, which previously succeeded with the first generation of the Switch, which exceeded 140 million units sold globally.
According to previous reports, the release of the Switch 2 was delayed several times before it saw the light of day in mid-2025, as Nintendo sought to provide the ideal experience in terms of performance and integrated technologies, especially in terms of portable display and battery life.
In an interesting twist, a recent patent revealed that Nintendo is considering making Nintendo DS games available on the Switch 2 through a software system that allows dual-screen emulation on a single screen, a move that could significantly boost the console’s library.
It is clear that the company plans to make the Switch 2 the centerpiece of its strategy for the coming years, relying on a huge player base and expanding support from third-party developers.
