Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead has confirmed that there are currently no plans to develop a third installment in the series, stating that the team’s focus is on supporting and expanding the current installment for as long as possible.
During a discussion with players on Discord, studio CEO Shams Jorjani explained that the team has no plans to release Helldivers 3 in the near future, saying that the goal is to make Helldivers 2 an eternal game similar to Runescape, which has lasted for more than 24 years.
Jorjani added that the studio aspires to continue working on performance optimization and developing internal practices to continue releasing updates and expansions that keep the game active for many years rather than jumping straight into a new installment.
According to the developers, PlayStation has been very supportive of the studio’s long-term plans, which enhances the chances of success for the game’s eternal vision. They noted that a major update coming in mid-October will focus on addressing performance issues, along with plans to add new content in the future.
While there are no current plans for a sequel, continued support for Helldivers 2 could make it the centerpiece of the experience for years to come, with the potential to become one of the most prominent live-action co-op games in the PlayStation and PC library.
