Blue Prince publisher Blue Prince has broken its silence to respond to surprising accusations of using generative AI in the game’s development in the wake of the recent Indie Game Awards controversy.
The accusations come as the debate over the use of artificial intelligence in the gaming industry escalates, especially after Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was stripped of awards for its confirmed use of AI-generated elements, opening the door to a wave of skepticism towards other indie games.
Blue Prince, a critically acclaimed puzzle game and one of the top-rated games of 2025, was subsequently awarded Best Indie Game after Clair Obscur was disqualified, but accusations quickly surfaced that developer Dogubomb used generative AI tools during development. The controversy escalated after an article published on The Escapist, which was later amended.
In response, publisher Raw Fury released an official statement denying these claims outright, emphasizing that Blue Prince did not use any kind of AI in the development process.
The statement reads:
For those who need confirmation: No artificial intelligence was used in Blue Prince. The game was designed and developed entirely with pure human effort by Tonda Ros (Dogubomb) and his team. It is the result of 8 years of work driven by imagination and creativity and we are extremely proud of what has been accomplished.
The rules of The Indie Game Awards strictly stipulate that no generative AI is used and that developers must formally confirm this as part of the nomination process. According to the statement, the accusations against Blue Prince were without any documented evidence, much to the dismay of the community of gamers and developers alike.
With the continued tightening of control over the use of AI in games, it seems that these issues will remain strongly present in 2026, and in the case of Blue Prince, many believe that the controversy was unwarranted, especially since it is one of the most prominent independent experiences of the year and faced these accusations right after a well-deserved crowning moment in its career.
