Quantic Dream, known for interactive narrative games like Detroit: Become Human and Heavy Rain, has revealed a major shift in strategy, announcing that it has officially become a multi-project studio after years of working on one project per development cycle.
Despite this change, the team emphasized that development of Star Wars Eclipse is still ongoing while working on an entirely new title that represents a bold departure from its usual style.
In an official post on its website, the studio explained that the move comes after years of operating as a single-project studio, noting that in recent years it has opened a new studio in Montreal, Canada, moved to a new headquarters in Paris, established its own publishing division to distribute its games globally, and built a new generation of its in-house development engine.
The team said the expansion has allowed them to work on multiple projects simultaneously and emphasized that the move marks a new phase of growth and innovation.
One of the biggest surprises of the announcement was the unveiling of a new competitive team experience – described by the studio as:
“born out of the spirit of curiosity and creativity that has always defined us.
The team added that the new project may surprise Quantic Dream fans as it is very different from their previous storytelling games, but it reflects their commitment to challenging themselves and exploring new ways of playing and storytelling.
Taking risks and exploring the unknown has always been part of our creative DNA. – Quantic Dream
As for Star Wars Eclipse, which was first announced in 2021, the studio confirmed that development continues unabated and that the team looks forward to sharing more details with players in the future.
Despite the lack of information, the game is expected to combine Quantic Dream’s deep storytelling style with the vast Star Wars universe in an experience that combines narrative choices with dynamic combat.
With this announcement, it seems that Quantic Dream is looking to expand its identity from a developer of interactive story games to a diversified developer that balances narrative and collective innovation, and if its new project is successful, along with Star Wars Eclipse, the studio could see its most ambitious phase since its founding.
Do you think Quantic Dream will succeed in integrating its storytelling style with multiplayer elements?
