Capcom is preparing to launch its upcoming mega title Resident Evil Requiem, which it has gradually revealed over the past months with promises that it will be a larger project than Resident Evil Village and that its development process began long before Village, and in a new interview, game producer Masato Kumazawa revealed exciting details regarding the returning characters and the stalking monster within the game.
In an interview with Well Played (via Eurogamer), Kumazawa was asked about the possibility of Outbreak characters returning, especially since Requiem’s protagonist Grace is Alyssa Ashcroft’s daughter:
“Yes, there will be some characters from the previous series, but don’t get too excited.
He added that the team cannot reveal specific details at this time, but he confirmed that characters involved in the Raccoon City incident will appear in the game, which opens up a lot of possibilities for fans of the series.
On the other hand, Komazawa talked about the stalking enemy that will not be a major element of the gameplay but rather a small part of the experience. He noted that the team has taken lessons from the past to better balance the appearance of this type of enemy, instead of focusing on a single monster that haunts the player, the team aims for a comprehensive horror experience, saying:
The game tries to cover a large number of scenarios to ensure that players feel fear in different ways.
Besides, recent reports have indicated that at least one DLC is already in development while the developers previously explained why the multiplayer mode was abandoned in this installment and focused on the individual experience and immersive horror.
The return of classic characters may represent a powerful moment for Resident Evil fans, but the producer’s statements are clearly aimed at managing audience expectations and not inflating them, and with the focus on varied horror and multiple scenarios, Requiem seems poised to deliver a different experience than recent releases.
