Leaks about Sony’s next-generation console are on the rise, with renowned leaker KeplerL2 confirming that PlayStation 6 is set to release in 2027, continuing the legacy of the PlayStation hardware that has dominated the gaming market for decades.
The speculation began after the publication of a video between PlayStation platform architect Mark Cerny and AMD’s Jack Huynh where they discussed the future of technical collaboration between the two companies. On the NeoGAF forum, a user commented that 2027 is on the table as a possible launch date, to which KeplerL2 responded:
“It’s not just on the table… it’s the actual plan barring unforeseen delays.
This gives the leak great credibility given the accuracy of Kepler’s previous leaks regarding AMD processors and next-generation cards.
According to reports, the PlayStation 6 is expected to come with powerful specifications that include:
- Central Processor: Eight AMD Zen 6 cores.
- Graphical processor: RDNA 5 architecture with 40-48 processing units.
- Power consumption: Approximately 160 watts.
- Memory: 160- or 192-bit wide memory bus.
- Reverse compatibility: Support for full PS4 and PS5 game play.
Some sources also indicate that Sony intends to release a plug-in version, i.e. a portable device that can be connected to the TV similar to the Switch concept but with much more powerful specifications.
The leaks largely agree that the target launch date is the end of 2027, with the possibility of postponing it to the beginning of 2028 if Sony faces difficulties in manufacturing or supply, and this timing is in line with the life cycle of the current generation, which was launched in 2020, almost 7 years after PlayStation 5, which makes the time frame completely logical.
Analysts predict that PS6 will offer a breakthrough in interactive AI and advanced ray tracing, as well as huge improvements in cloud performance and integration with PS Plus, and with the increasing competition with Xbox and the emergence of Switch 2, it seems that 2027 will witness the strongest battle in the home console market in more than a decade.
Do you think Sony will stick to the 2027 plan or will it push the launch to 2028 as it has done with some of its previous consoles?
