After more than two decades of fierce competition between Xbox and PlayStation, Halo Studios announced during the Halo World Championships that Halo : Combat Evolved, the official remake of the legendary Halo: Combat Evolved (2001), will be released on PlayStation 5 alongside Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2026.
Halo has been the most powerful weapon in Microsoft’s arsenal and the backbone of the Xbox identity since 2001 and is now opening the doors to an entirely new audience of gamers on Sony’s platform in one of the boldest decisions in the series’ history.
Despite the longstanding competition between Xbox and PlayStation, Microsoft’s new direction towards expanding the audience for its games seems clear, especially after moving major games like Gears of War and Sea of Thieves to other platforms, the move is a strategic shift in the company’s philosophy, which has become focused on reaching as many players as possible instead of adhering to the concept of exclusivity.
Making Halo available on PlayStation could open the door to future collaborations between the two companies and give millions of gamers the chance to experience one of the most influential shooters in history.
Do you expect to see other Halo installments on PlayStation in the future? Will you be re-experiencing Halo: Campaign Evolved on your PS5?
