The relationship between Xbox and PlayStation seems to be entering a whole new phase, as it has been revealed that PS4 and PS5 owners will be able to participate in beta testing of future Halo games via the Halo Insider Program.
The Halo Insider Program has long been an exclusive way for fans of the series on Xbox and PC to experience early versions of Halo games and provide feedback to the developers, but now, as confirmed, new options have been added in the user account settings under the section dedicated to platform tests
This update follows the resounding announcement at the Halo World Championship where it was revealed that Halo: Campaign Evolved is a full remake of the first installment that will be released in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
This decision is a historic first as no Halo game has ever been released on the PlayStation platform before, reflecting Microsoft’s new direction towards a play-for-all policy.
By making the tests available to PlayStation users, developer 343 Industries appears to be preparing to significantly expand the player base, and some rumors suggest that a Halo service is in development, making it a logical step to include the PlayStation audience in the tests to test scalability.
It’s clear that the boundaries of the platforms are starting to blur. Halo, once a symbol of Xbox’s exclusivity, is now closer than ever to the PlayStation audience.
Do you think this is the beginning of a greater unification between platforms? Will you be participating in the upcoming Halo experience on PS5?
