Rockstar’s recent announcement that Red Dead Redemption will be available for free on current-gen devices has reignited discussions about the future of the series, especially the fate of the enhanced version of Red Dead Redemption 2. Although some took this move as a signal to cancel the upcoming upgrade, reliable internal sources confirmed the exact opposite.
The well-known leaker NateTheHate responded to criticisms directed at him on the X platform regarding his lack of anticipation of the recent announcement and clarified that the arrival of the first part of the new generation “does not negate the launch of an enhanced version of RDR2,” confirming that the project is still in Rockstar’s plans.
Regarding the launch date, Nate stated that the information he has received since the beginning of the year indicates that the enhanced version of Red Dead Redemption 2 will arrive “several months” after the launch of the Switch 2, but he stressed that the schedule remains subject to change, especially after the postponement of GTA 6, and Rockstar is known for its complete freedom in setting its dates without any time pressure.
On the other hand, Red Dead Redemption 2 continues to break records, as it recently became the fourth best-selling game in history after surpassing Mario Kart 8 sales, and speculation has increased in the past period about the release of an enhanced version, especially as the anniversary of the game’s release approaches.
