Fans of the Splinter Cell series have long been waiting for a real return of the legendary agent Sam Fisher, but Ubisoft left the series in limbo for more than a decade, content with repeated hints about the Splinter Cell remake project without providing concrete details, and this long absence led some fans to a stage of frustration, especially with the continued popularity of the character.
But instead of a new game announcement, the unexpected news came that Sam Fisher is back in part through an official collaboration with the virtual reality game Ghosts of Tabor, one of the most popular VR extraction games.
In a new teaser posted by Combat Waffle, an official partnership with Ubisoft was revealed that adds content directly inspired by Splinter Cell to Ghosts of Tabor. This content allows players to take on the role of Sam Fisher from a VR perspective, focusing on the iconic look and equipment of the Third Echelon character without including Michael Ironside’s famous voice performance.
The new expansion includes a host of Splinter Cell-inspired items, most notably:
- Karambit weapon for close combat
- FN 57 camouflage
- MP7 camouflage
- Third Echelon night vision goggles
- Third Echelon’s tactical Kevlar armor
- Third Echelon’s classic suit
The game allows players to take on the role of Sam Fisher in what some have previously described as Escape from Tarkov with a VR flavor, in a gameplay style that resembles what some have previously described as Escape from Tarkov with a VR flavor.
Available on Meta Quest, PC VR, and PlayStation VR, Ghosts of Tabor is one of the most prominent shooters in the VR ecosystem today, and since its release several years ago, Combat Waffle has continued to support it with updates and new content on an ongoing basis.
While this collaboration is not a substitute for a full Splinter Cell game, it gives fans of the series a rare opportunity to experience Sam Fisher’s atmosphere from a completely different angle while waiting for Ubisoft’s real surprises for the future of the series.
