According to new sources revealed by Insider Gaming, Ubisoft is preparing to release the remake of The Sands of Time in mid-January 2026, ahead of the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake as originally planned.
Sources indicate that the game’s next appearance will likely be during The Game Awards on December 11, 2025 where the official date may be revealed along with a new presentation.
The remake was first announced in 2020 and was planned for release in January 2021, but a series of successive delays led to the game being delayed without a clear release date:
- The first postponement from January to March 2021.
- Only a month later another postponement to an unspecified date.
- The game entered a long period of media silence.
In May 2022, Ubisoft announced the transfer of development to Ubisoft Montreal, the same team that created the original Sands of Time trilogy, and with this transfer the game was completely rebuilt from scratch including:
- A more realistic visual style
- Redesigned graphics
- new animation
- Comprehensive improvements to the combat system
- Parkour mechanics revamped from the ground up
Two years later, Ubisoft Toronto joined the development process to support the project with a confirmed release date of 2026.
The original Sands of Time was released in 2003 and was considered a paradigm shift in adventure games at the time thanks to its distinctive writing, the ability to rewind time and smooth parkour, and the upcoming remake promises to deliver the classic experience with a modern twist.
After more than 5 years of announcement, it looks like the Sands of Time remake is finally coming to gamers. Are you excited for this return, and what do you see in the new version? Let us know what you think.
