Amid the renewed debate over the future of Xbox, between rumors of the company’s exit from the hardware market and the expectations of next-generation enthusiasts, Xbox President Sarah Bond came out to provide the clearest vision yet about the path of the next generation of Microsoft’s hardware.
In an interview published by Fortune, Bond emphasized that hardware is still a key part of Xbox’s identity and that the company is already working on the next-generation console, emphasizing that it will be a powerful experience focused on player freedom and mobility.
Bond said:
“Hardware is an essential part of everything we do at Xbox… We’re working on a new generation that delivers a powerful experience and allows gamers to take their library with them wherever they go.
One of the main points Bond emphasized was the idea that the Xbox experience will not be confined to the home console, but will be portable to PC, mobile devices, and cloud streaming
She added:
“We know that people want to play their library on the console, but they also want to play it on the PC or in the cloud. The Xbox experience starts on the console… and then extends to every screen the player wants.
This vision is in line with Microsoft’s policy over the past few years, especially with the support of Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Gaming, suggesting that the next generation may integrate these concepts more deeply and seamlessly.
These statements come days before the upcoming Xbox Partner Preview event, which will introduce new game offerings from major partners, reinforcing the idea that Xbox wants to combine a hardware expansion with an expansion in game diversity.
Interestingly, Bond repeated the phrase Xbox Experience several times in a seemingly planned manner, sparking speculation that the name of the next generation or its platform may be related to this concept.
Bond’s remarks emphasize that the next generation will not just be a technologically more powerful device, but a focal point that brings together the game library, identity, community, and store into one system that can be carried anywhere.
