The Silent Hill series looks set for a major creative shift following the success of 2025’s Silent Hill f, which revitalized the series by breaking its traditional geographical framework and moving the psychological horror from the iconic American town to a Japanese setting rich in local symbolism and mythology.
During an interview with Inverse in Los Angeles, producer Motoi Okamoto revealed that Konami is seriously considering moving the events of the upcoming Silent Hill games to completely new regions around the world, emphasizing that the Japanese experience gave the team a wider space to explore horror from a different cultural perspective, a trend the company wants to build on in the future.
Okamoto explained that the development teams are currently looking at several potential regions, including Asian countries, Central and South America, as well as countries such as Russia, Italy and South Korea. He noted that these regions have unique local belief systems and legends that can be utilized to create different psychological horror experiences that are in line with the essence of the Silent Hill series.
He also noted that elements such as shamanism, magical realism, the influence of military coups, and issues of identity and masculinity in some Latin American countries represent fertile ground for deep horror that has not been sufficiently exploited in video games until now, stressing that the series is always looking for new sources of fear that go beyond the traditional pattern.
Despite this creative ambition, Okamoto acknowledged that there are practical challenges, most notably the lack of local studios capable of handling a project of the size and complexity of Silent Hill in some of these regions, making choosing the right partner a crucial element in any future geographic expansion.
These statements reflect Konami’s intention to transform Silent Hill from a single location-based series into a global horror experience that draws its fears from multiple cultures, a move that could redefine the franchise’s identity in the coming years.
This comes at a time when the series is preparing to launch two high-profile projects, Screen Burn’s Silent Hill: Townfall and Bloober Team’s original Silent Hill remake, further solidifying the current momentum and confirming that the future of the series is undergoing a new and ambitious phase.
