SEGA has officially announced that Sonic Racing CrossWorlds will be available digitally on Switch 2 on December 4, 2025, marking the first major racing release in the series on the new generation of Nintendo hardware.
This follows the success of Mario Kart World, which crossed the 10 million copies sold mark, setting the stage for new competition in the racing genre within the Nintendo ecosystem.
According to official details on the game’s website, the Switch 2 version will offer noticeable improvements in graphical fidelity and frame rate with the ability to transfer save data from the old Switch to the new version, and the company also clarified that the physical version will be released later with the game card without specifying an exact date.
Players who purchase the game between December 4 and 18, 2025 will receive the free Werehog Pack, an exclusive bonus for a limited time, while those who purchase the upgrade pack from December 4 to 11 will receive it at half price, and the Deluxe Edition can be purchased on the Switch 2, which includes the base game, season pass and upgrade pack at a discounted price.
The game requires 16GB of storage space and supports cross-platform play, and the technical performance is as follows:
- TV mode (1-2 players): 2560×1440 resolution at 60 frames per second
- TV mode (4 players): 2560×1440 resolution at 30 frames per second
- Mobile Mode (1-2 players): 1920×1080 at 60 fps
- Mobile Mode (4 players): 1920×1080 at 30 frames per second
This release comes at a time when the Nintendo arena is witnessing renewed competition between major brands, especially after the huge successes of Mario Kart and F-Zero 99. With Sonic Racing CrossWorlds, SEGA seeks to deliver a fast-paced, action-packed racing experience that combines multiple worlds with Sonic’s famous speed.
Do you think Sonic Racing CrossWorlds can compete with Mario Kart in sales and popularity? Or will Mario remain the undisputed leader?
