Reliable leaker DanielRPK has revealed that Paramount is seriously considering changing the name of Sonic the Hedgehog 4, which is slated for release in March 2027, to Sonic CD in a direct reference to the iconic classic game from 1993.
This trend comes after the leaker confirmed through his reports (quoting MaxBlizz) that part 4 of the cinematic series will present a story revolving around time travel, which is the main idea in the original Sonic CD game, and if this information is correct, this movie will be the first in the series to break the digital name sequence since its inception in 2020.
According to leaks, filming will begin in the coming months while the story is still in pre-production, and the movie is expected to feature beloved characters from the classic game such as Metal Sonic and Amy Rose, as well as the return of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles.
The movie is likely to be more fantastical and temporal in nature compared to previous installments that focused on contemporary action-adventure comedies.
The film is set to release on March 19, 2027, completing the film series that began with Sonic the Hedgehog (2020), followed by Sonic 2 (2022) and Sonic 3 (2024), making the fourth film a possible conclusion to the series or the beginning of a new phase with more time elements and expansion of the Sonic Cinematic Universe.
This news comes at a time of great activity in the Sonic universe, with Sonic Rumble releasing globally on PC and mobile on November 5 and a new trademark registration for Shadow the Hedgehog by SEGA sparking speculation about his future appearances.
