Concord is still known as one of PlayStation’s most controversial failures after it went from a huge project that cost more than 400 million dollars to a game that was completely shut down within days of its launch, and today, after an attempt by the community to revive it, the name Concord returns to the forefront again, but for a not-so-happy reason.
A number of amateur developers have confirmed that Sony has already started taking legal action to stop the Concord revival project on the computer, a project through which players succeeded in running private servers for the game and allowing a limited number of access to it, and it seemed a simple initiative by fans of the game who wanted to give it a new chance after its rapid closure, but that did not last long.
In recent hours, the Concord Delta team, which is responsible for the terminal that provided access to the servers, published an update on their Discord server that read:
Due to troubling legal developments, we have decided to temporarily stop sending invites.
The reason for this quickly became apparent: Game clips of the project were published on YouTube, and Sony moved through an organization called MarkScan, which is known for its work for the company in pursuing copyright, and issued DMCA notices that caused the videos to be deleted immediately, and with the deletion of the clips and the suspension of invitations, Concord’s servers became unavailable, which means that the project has been effectively stopped.
This development comes amid Sony’s clear desire to keep Concord out of sight after its great failure, the closure of the Firewalk development team and the withdrawal of the entire game from the service very soon after its release, so it seems that Concord has met its second end and this time not because of poor demand, but because of direct legal actions that stopped even attempts to revive it by the community
Is it better to forget about Concord and leave it as a page that Sony has closed for good? Or is the shutdown of a small project by a handful of players another loss for a game that was never really given a chance from the start?
