In a swift move that reflects Netflix’s confidence in the success of the project, the animated series Splinter Cell: Deathwatch has been officially renewed for a second season, just one day after the release of the first season.
The series, a collaboration between Netflix and John Wick creator Derek Kolstad, reintroduces the iconic Splinter Cell universe in an all-new style, continuing the story of legendary agent Sam Fisher, voiced by The Wolverine’s Liev Schreiber.
During the IGN Fan Fest event, Kolstad announced that Season 2 is in full production, saying in his message to fans:
“We have a second season coming your way! We don’t have a release date yet and since I’m new to animation, I know it’s a long process. But we are now in full pre-production and the team is very excited about what’s next.”
The director emphasized that the new season will offer a broader storyline while maintaining the same action intensity and boldness that characterized the first season.
The first season of Splinter Cell: Deathwatch was released just one day ago, but it has already garnered good reviews from critics and fans who praised the action-packed narrative and cinematic atmosphere inspired by the original video games. The first season ended with a cliffhanger ending that left fans eager to find out what Sam Fisher will face next.
While gamers have been waiting for years for an official announcement of a new installment in the Splinter Cell series, it seems that Sam Fisher’s appearance on the small screen temporarily is the closest thing to a return now with a promise from Kolstad that what’ s next will be bigger and more violent.
Netflix has yet to announce a release date for Season 2, but the confirmation that it’s going into production means it won’t be long before Agent Fisher is back in the spotlight, this time in an action-packed, espionage-filled animation.
Have you watched Splinter Cell: Deathwatch season 1? Do you hope the series returns as a game soon?
