The developers behind the realistic shooter Unrecord have announced a new investment from Tencent in a move aimed at supporting and accelerating the development of the game that caused quite a stir after its first trailer.
According to a report by GamesIndustry, Tencent has acquired a minority stake in publisher Drama Games without disclosing the percentage of the acquisition or the value of the investment.
Theo Hiribarne, founder and CEO of Drama Studios, said that the team has worked non-stop since the wave of interest that followed the first announcement of the game, stressing that the goal was to provide an experience that meets the expectations of the community. He added that the partnership with Tencent is not just a collaboration with a major global company, but a partnership with a team that believes in the vision of the game and respects its creative identity, noting that the support provided by Tencent came from the early stages of development.
Mark Maslowicz, Vice President of Partnerships at Tencent Games Europe, explained that the company believes deeply in creative talent and praised Drama Studios’ progress in developing Unrecord despite the small team size and limited resources, emphasizing that this investment will help the studio unlock its full potential and deliver great games in the future.
Unrecord does not yet have an official release date and is currently intended for PC only, however, the game is currently ranked 9th on Steam’s Most Added and Most Wanted list, reflecting the amount of interest in the game.
The studio also secured a $2.5 million investment in a seed funding round from The Games Fund in September 2024, further solidifying its financial stability and supporting its near-term ambitions.
