The Call of Duty NEXT event saw Black Ops 7 showcased extensively as pro players and content creators were able to try out new maps, modes and weapons, but one item in particular stood out: A new weapon called The Gravemaker, which has sparked controversy for being the closest thing to a Wallhack built into the game.
A Killstreak that gives the player the ability to see through hard surfaces and kill enemies with just one press and contains 9 bullets, making it theoretically capable of eliminating an entire team effortlessly, it was demonstrated by professional league player Chris Simp Lehr in a clip from the event where he was shown eliminating his opponents quite easily through walls.
Much like the most popular Wallhack Cheats that have long plagued the game’s community, some players considered the weapon to be unbalanced and expressed concern about a repeat of the visibility issue that existed at the beginning of Black Ops 6 before it was significantly reduced, while others saw it as a fun addition that adds a new flavor to the experience, even if it is not entirely fair.
Perks such as Cold Blooded are expected to minimize its effect by removing the player from the weapon’s thermal sight. However, how effective these tools will be against the weapon is still up for debate.
One player wrote:
This proves that COD isn’t listening, BO6 started with the same idea and was drastically scaled back later.
And another said:
Now you won’t know if you were killed by a hacker or Killstreak.
A third commented positively:
A fun addition, I can’t complain. Not everything has to be balanced and fair.”
With the release of Black Ops 7 next month, the question remains: will The Gravemaker remain the same at launch, or will Treyarch be forced to tone it down under community pressure?
