Dispatch saw one of the fastest successes in 2025, making its name in the world of storytelling games thanks to the AdHoc studio team, which includes a number of Telltale veterans, and among the wave of praise for the game came a remarkable statement from the famous Polish director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, director of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, who described Dispatch as his favorite game of the year.
In an interview with Eurogamer, Tomaszkiewicz spoke about the role of AI in game development, explaining that he sees AI as an aid rather than a replacement for humans:
I think AI should help people, not replace them… I don’t feel that games made entirely with AI will have a soul.
He added that only human creativity can give games those moments that touch emotions and build character depth, which is exactly what Dispatch did:
“I just finished Dispatch and it’s my game of the year. And I really believe that AI is not capable of creating something like that. You need people who feel and want to say something and want to create an experience that evokes emotion. A machine can’t understand us to that extent.
Tomaszkiewicz’s talk coincides with the success of the game, which sold over two million copies in less than a month and was nominated for Best First Indie Game at The Game Awards 2025. Previous interviews have highlighted the way the AdHoc team crafted their narrative experience, which was key to differentiating it from any product that might be released using AI alone.
The issue of the industry’s reliance on AI continues to be controversial, with former Rockstar co-founder Dan Hauser emphasizing that AI is useful but not magic, and Dispatch is a prime example of what human creativity can do when it’s at the center of the action.
