Despite the great excitement surrounding The Witcher 4 and its nomination for Most Anticipated Game alongside huge titles like Marvel’s Wolverine and GTA 6, CD Projekt Red has officially announced that the game will not be appearing at The Game Awards next month.
Co-Executive Director Michal Norwakowski posted a message on the X platform expressing gratitude for the votes the game has received so far but categorically confirming that the team will not be revealing any new content at this year’s ceremony.
He said in his statement:
“I’m thrilled to see The Witcher 4 nominated for Most Anticipated Game at The Game Awards. Thank you to everyone who voted for us – your support means a lot. We won’t be delivering any new content this year but we’re excited to follow the ceremony and celebrate the industry with all of you.
This decision comes after the game received its first teaser trailer at The Game Awards last year and later appeared at State of Unreal this summer, giving players an early look at the technology and art direction.
Despite its absence from the ceremony this time around, the studio continues to bolster its development team at a rapid pace, with more than 60 new developers joining in August and recently hiring the lead gameplay designer for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 in a move that indicates the scale and magnitude of the project.
The Witcher 4 is the true sequel to 2015’s The Witcher 3, but CD Projekt Red remains tight-lipped about its release date or development progress, and pending information coming in 2026 and beyond, the team seems focused on building the game as best as possible without rushing to reveal too much.
