In a move that has sparked widespread controversy among players, it has been officially confirmed that the campaign mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 does not support the pause feature even during single-player play, due to the fact that the campaign relies on a permanent internet connection, making all game elements active all the time.
Unlike previous Call of Duty installments where pressing the pause button froze the scene completely, Black Ops 7 keeps the world active even within the pause menu.
This means you can be attacked and die while the menu is open, you can lose your progress and go back to the last save point, and cinematic cutscenes can be interrupted by daily update windows
A clip posted on ModernWarzone shows a player watching an in-story cutscene and then suddenly the Daily Update pops up, which kicks the player straight back to the main menu, completely interrupting the experience.
So far, Treyarch has not announced an intention to add an offline mode or the ability to pause the story, especially since the campaign is tied to the new Worlds Collide elements, which means that the design may be based entirely on the connected environment.
The decision has upset a large number of players, especially those who prefer to experience the campaign without interruptions or who play on Veteran difficulty, where pausing for seconds can be fatal.
Do you think the decision to disallow pauses is wrong, and could it affect your desire to play the campaign?
