Warner Bros. Games has announced that Hogwarts Legacy has surpassed 40 million copies sold across all platforms in a testament to the game’s continued success more than two years after its release.
The announcement was made via the game’s official Xbox account, with the development team thanking the player community for their continued support and recognizing that this milestone would not have been possible without the overwhelming response from fans of the Wizarding World.
Hogwarts Legacy is the best-selling game of 2023, which is not surprising given that it is an open-world AAA game set in the Harry Potter universe, which has a huge fan base around the world.
Despite previous reports about the development of a Definitive version of the game, Warner Bros. Games later decided to cancel the project, but this decision did not negatively affect the sales performance as the game continues to generate strong numbers to this day.
As this milestone was announced, players expressed their hopes and aspirations for the future, with some calling for a cooperative mode in Part 2, others calling for console modding tools, and others calling for the release of additional content for the current installment.
Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world action-RPG set in the same magical world as the Harry Potter series, but takes players to an older time period. The game allows players to explore familiar and new locations, learn spells, raise magical creatures and craft items with a central storyline centered around an ancient secret that threatens the entire wizarding world.
Warner Bros. Games confirmed last year that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is in development, reinforcing expectations that the series will continue to expand in the coming years.
