In an unexpected surprise, the Indian animated film Mahavatar Narashimha has been making headlines over the past few days after accusations surfaced that it was blatantly copying one of the most famous fight scenes from God of War 2018, specifically the opening confrontation between Kratos and Baldur that has become one of the most enduring moments in gaming history.
The Indian film, which premiered at the International Film Festival of India in 2024 before receiving an official theatrical release in July 2025, did not receive global attention until the controversial comparison surfaced, and suddenly audiences found themselves faced with a central question: did the movie borrow God of War scenes without any significant change?
The well-known Xbox account Black Thunder posted a short clip that puts the two scenes side by side to show an almost identical similarity. The scene begins with one of the characters being thrown into the air in the same way as Kratos and then landing on the ground in the same position.
In the next few seconds, the same action is repeated as the opponent jumps towards the hero before missing the attack and then stands in a similarly tense manner before the hero uproots an entire tree from the ground, ending with an almost frame-by-frame combat sequence that is almost identical to the game version.
These identical scenes led fans to ask many questions about the true inspiration for the movie.
While some believe that this is just an “artistic similarity” expected in action movies, others believe that the match goes beyond the limits of natural inspiration and leans more towards direct quoting. Despite the lack of an official statement from the Mahavatar Narashimha production team, the comparison has become the talk of the gamer community and movie followers alike.
Over the years, the art scene has seen works that take inspiration from, and perhaps imitate, recognizable moments from other games or movies, but the level of similarity in this case has made it the focus of much discussion, especially since the Kratos and Baldur scene is one of the most memorable encounters in the modern gaming generation.
