Netflix continues to develop its massive project based on the Assassin’s Creed series and new reports have announced that actor Toby Wallace has been cast as one of the two leads in a move that confirms the start of actual preparations for the series. This series is the largest collaboration to date between Netflix and Ubisoft in the Assassin’s Creed universe after years of relatively successful and floundering cinematic attempts.
According to Deadline ‘s exclusive report, Toby Wallace will join the work in a major role and will be a “regular series” within the cast of the series, Wallace, who gained public attention after his participation in Euphoria and films such as Eden and The Bikeriders, represents a rising face with great potential and his joining the project opens the door to many fantasies, especially since the series will introduce new stories within the Assassin’s Creed universe without directly adhering to the plot of the games.
The report reveals that filming will take place in Italy, which raises strong expectations that the events may relate to the Italian Renaissance or locations similar to those made famous by the Enzo Auditore series, and although the story has not yet been revealed, the choice of location suggests a visual and historical orientation familiar to the audience.
The identity of Wallace’s co-star has not yet been revealed, but the nature of the series opens the door to the possibility of “two timelines” as in games where we see a modern hero and a hero from the past. The co-star could be a character from the present or a historical ancestor that connects to it, a familiar structure in the Assassin’s Creed universe.
The casting of Wallace is the first building block of the series, and it is expected that Netflix and Ubisoft will reveal additional names in the coming period, especially since the project is planned to be one of the major works on the platform, with the possibility of developing more than one series within the same world, as previously reported.
The failure of the 2016 cinematic film didn’t stop Assassin’s Creed from being one of the most successful TV adaptations of the game, and with an experienced production team, a direct partnership with Ubisoft, and a clear ambition to deliver a multi-season anthology series, it seems Netflix is trying to deliver a more mature and deep experience for audiences.
